Consultations

We start with an initial consultation and continue to meet as needed during all phases of your site developement. During the consultations we can discuss ideas for the website's graphics, information network, special needssearch engine optimization and other marketing.

Choosing a Template....

When you are deciding on which web template to pick, keep these three things in mind:

  • 1. What is your website for? (business, personal, community site, etc.)
  • 2. Who are your would-be visitors? (students, adult, shoppers, etc.)
  • 3. What do you want to project? (informative, funky, serious, etc.)

If your website is for your personal page, then anything goes. That's the easiest type of website to make since most of the design would largely depend on what you want it to be. The only thing to consider is if your website is a mirror of you, it is YOUR site anyway. If you have a hobby, say fishing, then you can go for a naval theme. Adding your personal style to your site would simply do the trick.

Types of Web Site Templates

There are two basic types of web site templates. They can be either coded in Html or in Flash. Html templates are simple but they can make fast loading pages compared to flash templates. If you want some moving graphics or even animation in your web page then you might want to choose flash templates instead.

The "Banner" at the top of the site is an important choice. Your banner introduces your website. Remember that a good web site should have a branding (logo/color scheme). Make it an enjoyable place to stay for your online guests.

Choosing (and hopefully obtaining) a website name....

Choosing a domain name is important. There are many factors to consider. Take your time when choosing a name. Here are some tips....

Keep it Short:

The shorter, the better. If possible, keep your domain name less than 20 characters. A shorter name is easier for people to remember and it also reduces the likelihood that your visitor will mistype or misspell it.

Make it Descriptive:

You want it to convey a clear message of what your site is all about Don't just pick something out at random. If you have a business, then pick a domain name that reflects your business. If you have a personal or family site, pick something that relates to you or your family.

Or, you could refer to it in another way, like PuttsnPars.com. The former will help you with the search engines. The latter might be easier for visitors to remember.

It should be Simple:

You want it to be easy for people to spell. Don't use unusual or complex words. If you do, people will type in the common spelling of your domain and they will end up at somebody else's website.

It should be easy to Remember:

You might have a great Website, but if people can't remember your domain name, they will probably not be back and this will defeat your ability to build traffic. It's a tough job to get good traffic on the web so don't make it hard for visitors who want to come back.

Choose a Popular Extension:websites built design

For a business you'll want to use the .com extension. This is the most popular one and it's what most people think of when they type in a domain name. It’s true that the best names are already taken, but you can still find a good .com names if you look.

Try slight variations of the original name if what you wanted is already taken. For example, add "my" or "the" or "a" to the name or reorder the sequence of the words. Also, thousands of .com names expire every month so there is a steady stream of new domain names coming into the market.

Website Hosting

Who will "serve" your site?

After you register a domain name, you need a host in order to begin building your web pages.

There is never one hosting option that's best for every website. Some of you may just want a small "About Me" personal website, others may want a larger, more interactive website for personal or business reasons. Be sure you've made up your mind about the type of site you want to build because it has a great impact on the type of host you need.

A web host is the backbone of any website and no site can exist without one. They are responsible for providing you with the space for building your web pages, setting up your email accounts (if any), giving you the option of setting up additional functionality for your site (message boards, blogs, shopping carts, games, feedback forms), etc.

Important: Not all web hosts allow you to add additional functionality and other interactive features, so that's why it's important to choose a web hosting account that has the features youre looking for. Forum sites and e-commerce sites require hosting above the "economy" level. You don't want to start building your website and then discover you can't accomplish what you want with the host you've chosen.

Search Engine Optimization

Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the visibility of a website or a web page in search engines or un-paid search results. In general, the earlier (or higher ranked on the search results page), and more frequently a site appears in the search results list, the more visitors it will receive from the search engine's users. SEO may target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, video search, academic search, news search and industry-specific vertical search engines.

As an Internet marketing strategy, SEO considers how search engines work, what people search for, the actual search terms typed into search engines and which search engines are preferred by their targeted audience. Optimizing a website may involve editing its content and associated coding to both increase its relevance to specific keywords and to remove barriers to the indexing activities of search engines. Promoting a site to increase the number of backlinks, or inbound links, is another SEO tactic.

At Blue Window Websites we have a handle on good S.E.O. management. While there are many factors that influence whether a particular website is at the lead in search engine results, we will work with each client individually to best promote thier site.
